The Story:
The Doppio (Italian for "double") is the standard espresso order in many parts of the world outside of Italy. It provides a more substantial volume of the intense, concentrated coffee experience. While a single shot is traditional in Italy, the double shot has become the default in modern specialty coffee shops.

Ingredients
  

  • 18-20 grams finely ground coffee

  • Espresso machine
  • Grinder

Method
 

  1. Grind coffee beans to a fine consistency immediately before brewing.
  2. Dose and tamp the grounds firmly into a double portafilter basket.
  3. Lock the portafilter into the group head and start the extraction immediately.
  4. Brew for 25-30 seconds until 2 oz of espresso, topped with a thick layer of crema, is in the cup.
  5. Pro Tip: A double shot isn't just two singles pulled separately. It's a single extraction from a larger dose of coffee, which often results in a more balanced and complex flavor profile.
