Matcha Latte

Region: Japan 🇯🇵
Brewing Time: 0 minutes (No coffee)
Total Time: 3 minutes
Indulgence: ☕️ (Light & Earthy)
The Story:
A modern take on the traditional Japanese tea ceremony, the Matcha Latte combines high-grade, stone-ground green tea powder with steamed milk. It provides a calm, focused energy from L-Theanine, unlike the jittery caffeine rush of coffee. Its vibrant green color and earthy, slightly sweet flavor have made it a cafe staple worldwide.
Prep Time 3 minutes
Total Time 3 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp ceremonial-grade matcha powder
  • 2 oz hot water (175°F / 80°C)
  • 6 oz steamed milk (dairy or plant-based)
  • Honey or syrup (optional)

Equipment

  • Matcha whisk (chasen)
  • bowl (chawan)
  • milk frother

Method

  1. Sift matcha powder into a bowl to remove clumps.
  2. Add hot water and whisk vigorously in a "W" or "M" motion until a smooth, frothy paste forms.
  3. Pour the matcha into a cup, add optional sweetener, and top with steamed milk.
  4. Pro Tip: Never use boiling water, as it will burn the matcha and make it taste bitter. The ideal temperature is around 175°F (80°C).
