Espresso Shot Coffee Recipe

Espresso Shot

Region: Italy 🇮🇹
Brewing Time: 25-30 seconds
Prep Time: 0 minutes (consumed immediately)
Total Time: <1 minute
Indulgence: ☕️☕️☕️ (Pure & Strong)
The Story:
Espresso is not a bean roast but a method of brewing: forcing hot water under high pressure through finely-ground coffee. Invented in Italy in the early 20th century for speed and intensity, it forms the foundation of nearly all Italian coffee drinks and is meant to be savored quickly while the flavorful crema (the golden foam on top) is still present.
Total Time 1 minute

Ingredients

  • 18-20 grams finely ground coffee
  • Water

Equipment

  • 1 Espresso machine
  • 1 Coffee Grinder

Method

  1. Grind coffee beans immediately before brewing to a fine, powder-like consistency.
  2. Dose and tamp the grounds firmly into the portafilter.
  3. Lock the portafilter into the group head and start the extraction immediately.
  4. Brew for 25-30 seconds until 1-1.5 oz of espresso, topped with crema, is in the cup.
  5. Pro Tip: Preheat everything! Run hot water through your portafilter and cup to maintain temperature stability for the best extraction.
